About us
Julia's House is Dorset's only hospice dedicated to children with life-limiting conditions. The majority of the children that we care for are unlikely to live beyond the age of 18.
The children's hospice complements the work of the Julia's House Community Team, which consists of 60 nurses and carers who travel the county, providing life-changing support for families in their own homes. In 2007, the charity provided more that 7,400 hours of care for Dorset's children.
Julia's House receives approximately three per cent of its funding from the Government. The remainder of its income is raised by the Dorset community. It will cost £1.9m to provide our vital services in 2008.
In 2007 Julia's House:
- Cared for 84 children at home and in the hospice
- Increased number of Carers from 50 to 65
- Increased hours of Care by nearly 50%
- Provided over 4,800 hours of Care in the community and 2,600 hours of care at the hospice
- Ran first sibling project, in recognition of the impact having a seriously ill sibling has on other children
- Was named Royal Bank of Scotland Best Management Team Winner at the 2007 Dorset Business Awards
In 2008 Julia's House aims to:
- Open for night Care at the hospice
- Provide a facility for end of life stays at the hospice
- Provide more hours of community Care
- Run monthly support activities for siblings
- Pilot complementary and music therapies
- Run bereavement support programmes for families
